Effect of acute administration of Cisplatin on memory, motor learning, balance and explorative behaviours in rats

چکیده
Introduction: For some cancer survivors chemotherapy treatment is associated with lasting motor and cognitive impairments, long after treatment cessation. Cisplatin as an anti-neoplastic agent is extremely toxic and can cause severe tissue damage. In the present study, we elucidated alteration in performance of hippocampusand cerebellumrelated behaviours following acute cisplatin treatment in male and female rats. Methods: Male and female wistar rats (120) were divided randomly into eight (two controls [saline] and 6 cisplatin) groups. Cerebellumand hippocampus-related behavioural dysfunction in cisplatin-treated (5, 10 and 15 mg/kg/week for 1 week) rats were analyzed using hippocampus and cerebellumdependent function tasks (Morris Water Maze, Shuttle box, Rotarod and Open field). Results: Exposure to cisplatin impaired motor coordination in male and female rats in all doses. In open field test, the rearing frequency, total distance moved and velocity of both males and females were dramatically affected by exposure to cisplatin. In Morris water maze test, male and female rats that were trained one week after cisplatin injection showed significant memory deficits compared to the saline-treated rats. Conclusion: Hippocampal and cerebellum functions of male and female rats were profoundly affected by exposure to cisplatin. No sex-difference was observed in the most measured variables.

متن کاملThe effect of acute and chronic administration of naloxone on spatial memory in male cholestatic rats
Background and Objective: A great body of evidences suggested a marked elevation of endogenous opioid levels in plasma of animals with acute cholestasis. Endogenous opioids are implicated in the pathophysiology of cholestasis. Also, many studies have shown that endogenous opioids modulate memory processes. To clarify possible role of endogenous opioid receptors in information processing in acut...
متن کاملGender difference in motor impairments induced by chronic administration of vinblastine
Objective(s):Neurotoxicity of anticancer drugs complicates treatment of cancer patients. Vinblastine (VBL) is reported to induce motor and cognitive impairments in patients receiving chronic low-dose regimen. Materials and Methods: The effects of VBL treatment on motor, learning and memory functions of male and female Wistar rats were studied by behavioral related tests. Animals were given chro...
متن کاملEffect of combined administration of Zinc chloride and Aluminum chloride on memory and motor activity of young rats
Introduction: Aluminum is known as a neurotoxic element which causes neurodegeneration, learning deduction and movement disorders. Aluminum ions in the brain cause serious problems such as Alzheimer, Parkinson and other degenerative diseases. On the other hand, Zinc is a dietary element essential for several biological processes, modulates neurotransmission in brain regions and associates wi...
متن کاملComparison of Learning and Memory in Morphine Dependent Rats using Different Behavioral Models
There are several conflicting evidences showing the effect of morphine on learning and memory processes. In the present study the effect of chronic morphine administration on passive avoidance, active avoidance and spatial learning and memory of morphine dependent male rats using Passive Avoidance shuttle box and Morris Water Maze tasks were investigated, respectively. Male rats received morphi...
